Classes are taught by sworn law enforcement officers and other individuals with specific certification and expertise in those areas.
The Academy is an excellent platform for networking, getting to know new people in your community, partnering with law enforcement and learning what your police force does in your community.
Every participant has the opportunity to get as involved as they are comfortable with. Upon graduating from the CPA, the participant may join the Alumni where they can continue to learn and provide support for the officers.
Course Description
Instruction consists of one 3-hour class held each week for a duration of ten weeks. This instruction is comprehensive, covering a different area of the Georgetown Police Department and our community each week. Certified police officers, supervisors, and civilian instructors will conduct each topic. All classes are free.

- Criminal Investigations: Evidence Collection, Fingerprinting, Crime Scene Photography, Crime Scene Sketching, Interviewing Witnesses, Suspect Development and Tools of the Trade
- Use of Force/S.A.F.E. Safety Awareness For Everyone – Defensive Tactics
- Firearms Automated Training Simulation
- Narcotics Presentation – Drug Recognition and Addictive Behaviors – Drug Court

Who May Attend
Any interested citizen who resides or works in Georgetown/Scott County is encouraged to attend. Citizens involved with the Georgetown community in some way, such as youth involvement, neighborhood watch, and neighborhood groups are very important to the Academy. Citizens must be18 years of age with no prior felony convictions.
